POLE TEST AND TREAT
Pole deterioration (decay), resulting from the breaking down of a
pole's natural resistance to decay and insects, is the greatest enemy to
the service life of a pole. It is of great importance to engage in a Test
and Treat program that provides preventative treatment. The major purpose for maintaining wood poles is to extend their service life, thereby minimizing replacement costs. The treatment of wood poles with wood preservative pesticides is undertaken to prevent decay from wood rotor structural damage from insects, which can lead to pole failure, increased power outages and reduced worker and public safety. The method of a scheduled test and treat program can reduce the number of poles that haveto be replaced, and extends the service life of wood poles by up to five times. Our qualified test and treat personnel are experienced through education, field training, testing, and certified by our in depth company program. All personnel including others with several years of experience must complete our program and product recognition. The information the inspector collects reflects the life blood of the pole, providing the utility with a visual picture of the pole condition, treatment taken, recommendations and assistance in their continuing maintenance program. This information is critical in determining the life status of the pole. Our inspectors understand that a true test and treatment program goes beyond the field.
They are the eyes for the utility, and
their actions and data will aid in maintaining the value as well as the
safety of the project.
